METRE AND MOUTH DISEASE

Sir, - Can any of your readers offer an explanation as to why people who
have no difficulty in pronouncing the words centimetre and millimetre
produce the most extraordinary noises when wrestling with kilometre? In the
meantime: Let the people who look to depositor/ As a guide to pronouncing
kiloMETRE/ Get down on their knees/ And pray god that He sees/ That they
never encounter kiloLITRE. - Yours, etc.,

DENIS O'DONOVAN, Rockboro' Road, Cork.
