"WC means inches of water column (= 249 Pa), which is the common North
American pressure unit for low pressure gases (natural gas, air,
etc.)--although I doubt there are any plumbers today who actually measure
pressures with a water manometer. Conversely, I have never seen the English
nickname WC (for water closet, or toilet) used here in North America.
