You could, of course, have added that even their own speedometers show km/h,
and not kph. And that's not just the case in metric countries. The inner
scale of their speedometers in the U.S. and the U.K. also shows the unit as
km/h. (I'm making an assumption there, never having seen a car of any make,
in the U.S. or the U.K., that uses other than km/h on the inner scale.)
