ROMAN SERVICE STATIONS CHEATING CUSTOMERS
Carabinieri have shutdown 80 pumps of super and "verde" gasoline in Rome.
About 50% of all pumps examined were deemed to be "irregular." The gas
stations were selling less fuel than was indicated on the pump displays. In
a sweep of seven popular service areas, five of them had to be closed.
Indications on the pumps were altered without authorization. Carabinieri
determined that out of every 20 liters of fuel being sold, only 19 were
actually being distributed. Two of service station owners were charged with
commercial fraud.

DUISENBERG CONFIDENT VALUE OF EURO WILL RISE
"We are still confident, given the economic prospects of the euro, that the
single currency will have a strong appreciation." This was the guarantee put
forth by Wim Duisenberg, president of the European Central Bank, during a
speech given at the International Monetary Conference. "The inflation rate
of the euro will decrease to below 2% by next year," Mr. Duisenberg said.
Meanwhile, after a brief rally in this morning's markets, the euro once
again dipped below 85 cents to the dollar. Connected to the conference via
satellite, U.S. Federal Reserve Board President Alan Greenspan said,
"Inflation is not a significant problem in the United States."

Keiner ist hoffnungsloser versklavt als derjenige, der irrtmlich glaubt
frei zu sein.

There are none more hopelessly enslaved then those who falsely believe they
are free!

Johann Wolfgang von Goethe (1749-1832)
