Carleton slighted the imperial system by not giving a complete list of its
linear measures in USMA 14278. He quoted from the All_Aboard list:

He could have included
1 furlong = 10 chains
1 chain = 4 rods, poles or perches
................
1 link = 7.92 inches
1 inch = 2.54 centimeters
1 mil or thou = 1/1000 inch
