Here are the estimates of the deployment of GPS devices for "automatic
yield mapping" (giving mass/area, "point-by-point") in the fields
of Champaign County, Illinois:

30%, by the "Precision Agriculture" group in the Dept. of Agr. Engr., and

40%, by the County Farm Bureau which gave the names of three farmers
willing to provide details of their particular operations.

"Variable Rate Fertilization" is an option, but is not yet so widely
in use as the systems for automatic yield mapping.
