ATF regulations (http://www.atf.treas.gov/regulations/27cfr25.pdf) mandate
certain sizes for metric beer containers -- specifically 500 mL, 750 mL, 1
L, 2 L and 3 L.
Unfortunately, they don't require that non-metric beer bottles or cans carry
a metric equivalent.
However, the ATF regulations notwithstanding, there may be other consumer
goods regulations that require the metric equivalent. I haven't researched
that yet. Any volunteers?
By the way, your message was HTML-formatted. Some of the list server members
(e.g., Joe Reid) have email software that cannot handle that. They have to
search for the relevant text within what, to them, appears to be just so
much garbage.

My wife's office had a party, and she came home with a bottle of some kind
of
beer or ale.
The label showed the quantity of beer as "3/4 pint" ... only. Not 12 oz,
and
definitely not 355 mL. It was a very micro brewery.
I wrote to them; my message is at the bottom, and their reply is at the top.
Is BATF that clueless? What law is she citing?
I want to reply again but want to make sure I know what I'm talking about
before I do.

Hi Carleton,
Thanks for your e-mail!
We appreciate your concern on our labeling requirements. It is always a
good thing to have people watching our backs. Actually, all of our labels
have been approved by the B.A.T.F. and the requirement for net contents is
that if it is less than a pint it may be stated in fluid ounces or
fractions of a pint.
Thanks again!
Cheers!

I had a bottle of this stuff and it's wonderful.
A minor quibble with the label:
The quantity is shown as "3/4 pint". Under federal labeling regulations, a
metric quantity must always be shown as well, namely 355 mL. Maybe you can
fix it before the feds find out.
