Madan: Kilo and milli are not specifically French (nor are they whole words).
SI prefixes are mostly derived from Greek, Latin and Swedish. French versions of prefixed units (e.g., kilom�tre) do, of course, include them. TV, an abbreviation, not a word, is not specifically English. Interestingly, the full word is a hybrid, the "tele" part being Greek (meaning "far") and the "vision" part being Latin-derived (from video, meaning "I see"). Interestingly, the "approved" German word for television is pure German -- Fernseher. In practice, the Germans use the term TV, just like everyone else.
