In other words, it's the "system" that is international,
not just the units.

System of International Units would be translated as:
"Syst�me des unit�s internationales"  (I believe)

In any case, there's no way that it's going work out
in every language.  I do see that point though, that
some people would like to make it appear less
foreign to the one country that has not yet fully
accepted it.
