http://www.italy-news.net/index_eng.php3 PRODI DECLARES DOLLAR AND EURO WILL CREATE BIPOLAR WORLD ECONOMY In an interview with the newspaper "La Repubblica", European Commission president Romano Prodi declared, "The political impact of the euro will be to build one bipolar economy in the world. The two poles are the dollar and the euro." With the euro, said Mr. Prodi, "Everything will change in the direction of one European identity. The change will not be just a piece of paper; savings will no longer be devoured by inflation and devaluation." He went on to say that companies and banks should have only a single short European currency exchange list. He stated that there will be shared economic laws, but pension and tax systems [among member nations] will not necessarily be identical. Regarding Italy, Mr. Prodi said that there is still divergent opinions among the majority, but that he believes there is strong support for the notion of a united Europe. |
