Go to http://www.usmint.gov and do a search on either
Golden Dollar or Sacagawea, and you will find very limited info.
But, as an example, you will see a listing of some
businesses that are circulating the coins. I can't say if all of the
businesses that are listed are still doing so.
But, the lack of info on the US mint site shows
that even they are not really gun-ho about their own product.

each cash register at all 520 store locations.

over $2 million in Golden Dollar coins as change in five
weeks.

Mint teams with the Trenton Thunder Baseball Club, a Boston
Red Sox AA affiliate, to circulating Golden Dollar coins at
Trenton's stadium during the 2001 baseball season.

IHOP, one of America�s most-loved restaurant chains, will break
a 40-year tradition by changing the name of its popular �Silver
Dollar Pancakes� to �Golden
Dollar Pancakes.�

The United States Mint reported
to Congress today that since its debut a year ago, the Golden
Dollar has won popular support, especially as Americans discover
the convenience of using the coin in everyday transactions.

The United States Mint today announced that 2001
dated Golden Dollars featuring Sacagawea will be available in
bags of 2,000 coins and rolls of 25 coins online at www.usmint.gov
beginning February 21st at Noon (Eastern Time).

Safeway, one of the nation�s largest grocery chains, announced
today a
new commitment to routinely circulate Golden Dollar coins to
customers in all of its 1,500 stores nationwide. Initially, each
store will order 1,000 coins. As demand for the Golden Dollar
increases, the stores will order additional coins. Safeway is
committed to maintaining Golden Dollar supplies to meet customer
demand.
