To answer the third question: because it is the ISO format. I am not familiar with the 
japanese formats but in my Autocad the JIS paper formats are the same but only named 
JIS A0,1,2,3,4. I have not checked it recently but my memory tells me they have the 
same dimensions with ISO A-series.

And yes, having MT on 11x17 bothers me so much I would gladly donate the difference.

I'll go to sleep now and maybe tomorrow it will bother me less.;)
