I would like to comment on the paragraph below. The rest I completely agree with you,
although, I still maintain my position that a leaded discussion will better focus the
subjects. There is no sign that our chat has any impact in the association's
activities therefore, we (sometimes) blabber on all sorts of erratic subjects.

And to get to the point, I disagree with the statement below. It is not political
naivet+AOk- to ask to have a saying on what it is to be discussed with such and such
official or to simply have a saying on the agenda of the officers.

If what you are trying to say is that what our representatives are doing is so
unorthodox that it cannot be brought in the open then I may be in the wrong
organization.+ACEAIQ-

I do not consider that our association compares to NRA. NRA has to ask for political
favors therefore they give financial favors. I despise even typing their name+ACE-

I thought that we are a group of educated people who wish the best for this country.
We are not asking for political favors. We are only trying to convince
politicians/officials that we are right and to offer advice on SI when needed. Right?

So, what's so secret about that? And yes, some subjects may contain either classified
or confidential info. We can all understand this, but it can't be ALL confidential.

Let me give an example of what I mean:

I learned from MT jan-feb that there was an IEEE scc14 meeting on 30 Nov. Mrs. Young
was present as well as you. (it seems you were as a committee member and not as USMA
rep.) However, I would have loved to see a subject on the list: +ACI-Upcoming SCC14
meeting+ACI- Where you or Mrs. Young could have started the series by informing of the
subjects to be discussed. Nothing secret here I presume.
Also in MT we learned that comments and suggestions were compiled. Well, if only one
of these was generated through the discussion on the List then, the discussion would
have not been in vain. And, boy, wouldn't that be an interesting discussion+ACE-

        ........ Due to the realities
of the game of politics, it usually does not behoove any of us if we are
told ahead of time about USMA's planned activities on The Hill -- or,
oftentimes, even after the fact+ACE- To demand otherwise is a conclusive
mark of political naivete.
