Subject: Weather Info for Olympics
Editor:
In just a few days we will have tens of thousands of people from other countries visiting Salt Lake City.
Since the US is the only country left in world that uses non-metric units, very few of those tens of thousands will have any idea what "-5 degrees Fahrenheit" is, or what "inches of snow" means, or whether "10 mph wind speed" is fast or slow. So very few would understand the "Chill Out?" article on the front page of today's Tribune (31 January 2001).
Please consider putting metric equivalents into your weather information, as a courtesy to these thousands of visitors. It will be a tremendous help to them, and it will help our citizens become more familiar with the measurement language the rest of the world uses, and which the US will eventually use.
Thank you.
