Franois Cardarelli in "Scientific Unit Conversion". Springer, 1966 gives
        1 grain avoirdupois & apothecary = 64.80 ug
        1 grain de Paris = 53.11 mg
        1 grain (jewellers') = 50 mg
        1 gros de Paris (drachm) = 72 grains = 3.824 g
        1 once de Paris = 8 gros = 30.59 g

        in Paris and Bayonne, 1 livre = 9216 grains = 489,5 g
in other parts of France 1 livre = from 6479 to 9593 grains (but
what grains?)
