Just received these thoughts from a woman I know who lives outside of
London.
Tells the tale all too tellingly, I think ...

You're right about the Metrication issue. Anybody of my age or younger (I
will
be 41 next month) has been taught the Metric system since the age of 5. On
leaving school we have to discover the mysteries - and learn- the Imperial
system! Do you realise how mad it actually is here? Take the industry I
work
in. I calculate fuel volume in litres, speed in miles per hour but
distances
in kilometers. The price of fuel is pence per litre but consumption is
calculated in miles per gallon!

Last year I would work daily with prices offuel in 6 or 7 major European
currencies
and have to convert the comparisonsin Sterling. As I work for a German
company,
all internal information, figures
etc is/was in German and the Deutsch Mark. Of course, since the launch of
the
Euro, it has been wonderful. I can now work solely in one currency. Prices
do
not deed to be converted. In fact, my UK customers now work soley in Euros
and
the majority of them have opened Euro bank accounts and pay their invoices
in
Euros. How does our government think it can survive by remaining outside of

Euroland? Everything we do as a country is dictated by the Euro.
