Dear All,

It took the New York Stock Exchange 208 years (1793 to 2001) to catch on to
the idea that decimal currency was superior to pieces-of-eight.

I wonder how long it will take economists to realise that it is not
necessary to adjust interest rate rises and falls in 1/4 and 1/2 lots.
Surely the activities of their profession would look more precise if they
adjusted interest rates in decimal amounts such as 0.1% or 0.3%.

At least this would be in keeping with Simon Stevin's original suggestion
(as his 6th Article) that Moneymasters, Merchants, and all Estates in
General should convert currencies such as Pounds sterling, Livres de gros,
and Ducats in to decimal currencies. Simon Stevin made this suggestion in
1585.

I wonder how long it will take for the economists to catch up. I think it
will be best if I don't hold my breath while I'm waiting!

Cheers,
