I guess my membership ran out, but I never received a renewal notice, and so I haven't bothered to renew. Most organizations send out a renewal notice, or two or three. It's a lot easier to keep a current member than recruit a new one. I bet if they just sent out a renewal notice to everyone whose membership has expired in the last few years, they'd receive a bunch of easy money.
