Expressing distance as duration is common in the US but not common in
the UK. If you do use this expression in a UK context, you might receive
the response 'But how far is it'? You also need to ensure that the mode
of transport is unambiguous, particularly for shorter distances. If you
said something is 'ten minutes away' then the default assumption could
be that you meant a ten minute walk.
