Did I ever say or hint at not using the system, Bill? All *I* was complaining was how they've chosen to do it. Like you, I also take advantage of such systems (remember I mentioned Canadian Airlines? Well... My account evidently got transfered to Air Canada...). Just yesterday I booked my wife for a trip to Montreal using her points.
So... 'ranting and raving' probably yes, but not about the frequent flyer system *itself*, mind you! >I'd rather work methodically towards the furtherance of metrication than >indulge in a "vehement" knee-jerk reaction to every little thing. > If we're not 'vehement' about these things in terms of condemning how they've been set up, man, then what? And, NO, it's not 'every little thing', sir! You totally overlook the tremendous marketing potential these 'little things' have in the minds of the public. So, complain and condemn I will, sir! If in many a person's mind here 'little drops' count in their dictionary, let alone something this "global"!!! >"Gotcha!!"? How juvenile. > 'Juvenile'? How sad... It's quite clear that you didn't catch (or get!) my message which was NOT addressed at YOU, by the way, but at these marketers at airline companies who yielded to this airmile idiocy! I cannot believe you would have misread my message to that extent. So, please, I urge you, reread my message once again below, Bill, for the first time. >"Plot?" How silly. > ?? Again, how can you not see what's going on here, my friend? I'm sorry, but I don't think one can afford to overlook things like these. Marketing, marketing, marketing! If you just thought about this for a moment and paid a little attention to what that means in light of multinationals' campaigns to "spread" certain practices *globally* you'd probably at least understand where I'm coming from! I happen to know a little bit about how these... "games" are played and can unequivocally attest to its been indeed part of a "global strategy" (or plot, as you put it!) by these companies that participate in this "airmile program". THAT is a fact! Therefore, please, instead of classifying something as "silly", *please*, investigate the facts behind them first. >"Yes, Samantha, you may certainly top up my Chardonnay ... and I'll have the >salmon main course. Smooth flight, so far." >... Fine, Bill. Enjoy the fruits of this program all you want, and I will, evidently, too! ;-) However, I'll not allow this to jeopardize any advancements or glimmer of hope we may have to propose solutions that would be more SI-friendly when it comes to frequent flyer programs.
