Recently my wife was writing some instructions when she felt the need to
describe an object 10 mm thick.

Using a Times New Roman typeface � at 11 computer points and using a
non-breaking space between the number and the unit � she discovered that if
she underlined the dimension, 10 mm, then the length of the underline is
close enough to 10 mm for illustrative purposes.
