PAL and SECAM were better in the fact that they had more horizontal lines
than the NTSC standard. 625 vs. 525 Also, the PAL/SECAM signal was 10 MHz
in bandwidth and the NTSC only 6 MHz.

When I went to Engineering school in the late '70s, the way we were taught
to remember the letters NTSC was to associate it with Never Twice the Same
Colour. And, boy was that ever true. We never got a colour TV until I was
almost out of High School. Everytime we went to visit relatives and friends
who had a colour TV the colours were either too bright or faded. The people
were constantly running up to the set to adjust the tint and colour,
especially after it drifted and the actors ended up with green faces. What
a joke!
