The SI unit of inductance is the henry, named after the American physicist Joseph Henry (1797-1878). Eight Americans have served or are serving on the Comit� International des Poids et Mesures (CIPM). If I remember correctly, American laboratories have participated in the latest work in determining the second, and the speed of light, which is now used to define the metre.
