How about if everyone who wants to post anything off-topic begin each subject line with "Off-topic: blah blah blah?" And then anyone who doesn't want to read it can ignore or delete.

My request was not intended for you alone, Marcus. Your posting just
happened to be on screen when I became saturated with the many lengthy
discussions of calendar reform.
I should have been nameless when objecting to those protracted postings.
Your dedication to advancing the SI has my highest regard.
