Metric is used in these films and in this context because that is the reality.  It would be foolish to use old units when they are not encountered in real life.

Keep in mind, if there was a real anti-metric attitude among the British, they you would see massive street protests.  But, you don't.  Just because the BWMA and the anti-metric media twist the facts and make it appear so, doesn't mean it really is.

I'm sure most British are not frightened by the prospect of Britain being entirely metric in the next ten years.  Only the old empirists are making an issue of it where none exists.  As they die off, imperial will die with them.

It is the USA that you really have to worry about.  They will resist longer and make an even greater effort to sabotage metric usage anywhere in the world.

Subject: [USMA:22141] Some interesting things in a recent UK movie: Ali G.

hi,

I don't want to make any comment on the movie itself but only some metric facts I noticed.

1. He was talking about washing temperatures in C
2. A police officer showed him confiscated marijuana and stated "30 kilos" and "15 kilos"

thus makes me really thinking, what's going on with UK Metric progress??
