It's some other Potts. However, my father was a teacher -- of Physics, no
less. At the time John learned metric from his Mr. Potts, my father had been
retired for two years..

I made a similar wrong assumption, which was that the Newcastle University
at which John got his PhD was Newcastle-on-Tyne, UK. Coincidentally, my
father earned his degrees (Hons. BSc and MSc) at a College (Armstrong
College, University of Durham) that eventually became the University of
Newcastle-on-Tyne.

Both New South Wales, Australia, and Ontario, Canada provide plenty of
opportunity for place names that can be confused with UK place names. All
three have a both a Scarborough and a Newcastle, for instance. (The UK has
two Newcastles -- Newcastle-under-Lyme and Newcastle-on-Tyne.) I was born
and raised in Scarborough, England -- and subsequently lived in Scarborough,
Ontario.
