It really doesn't make much sense at all, does it? Not only are the units a hodge-podge, but the yield is just plain wrong.
You have to remember, though, not to expect too high a standard from in-flight magazines. Some of the international airlines have exceptional ones, but the domestic ones seem to be full of articles by writers who probably couldn't get employment anywhere else. And, of course, the magazines are produced, under contract, by a publishing company, not by the airline itself.
