Title: Re: [USMA:23555] atmosphere and gravity and more
Matthew Zetter asked in USMA 23555:

What society defined standard atmospheric pressure to be 101.325 kPa (I know the value came from 760 torr) and standard gravity to be 9.80665 m/s^2?  Is standard room temperature 293.15K or 298.15 K or both?  Do any of you know were I could get a thermometer that reads in kelvins.

Thank you for you time.

Matthew Zotter

The 9th Confrence Gnrale des Poids et Mesures, 1948, defined 101 325 newtons per square metre as the standard atmosphere for accurate work in thermometry (the old 760 mm of mercury).  The 10th CGPM, 1954, declared this to be the standard atmosphere for general use.  See "The International System of Units", 1998, page 123.

293.15 K (= 20C) looks like a British room temperature and 298.15 K (= 25C) looks like an American indoor temperature in winter.
