This morning the Cleveland Plain Dealer ran
an article by J. Michael Kennedy of the Los Angeles Times.
Apparently an American company based in San Diego is planning a moon mission and
has recently signed a 40 M$ contract with the Russian Space company
Kosmotras to launch a rocket to the moon by next October.
Anyone interested can send along greetings
at 2.5 k$/g. The rocket will also carry a list of people who have stalked
claims to acreage on the lunar surface.
Since the rocket will be launched Kazakhstan
one wonders if this project will be metric either fully or in part. The
article doesn't state who is building the rocket, but if it is done outside the
US the chances are great that it will be metric. One wonders if humans do
successfully return to the moon permanently, will SI be the only legal system to
be used on the moon or elsewhere in space? Or will the US try to export
FFU to the stars.
