I just got home from the local Safeway supermarket. Procter & Gamble is
definitely up to something regarding going to metric-only labels and getting
the US public used to seeing it.

Their Tide detergent soap cakes are now sold in 1.5 kg, 3 kg, and 4 kg
boxes, with the SI units printed much larger than the FFU. Also, I saw two
different versions of the 4 kg boxes next to each other. One had the metric
declaration printed twice as large as the FFU, while the other had a metric
declaration *four* times as large as the FFU print. It looks like P&G is
gradually enlarging the metric declarations to get Americans to notice it
more than the FFU (and get used to it). The FFU print is also a less
striking font, and it's printed over a part of the background that requires
you to either squint or get very close to it to read it clearly. A
psychological campaign, perhaps? Let's hope so! -- Jason
