That's a worse inaccuracy (5%) than the so-called 3.5" diskette (a little over 0.1%). 3" is only a whisker over 76 mm. I hope 80 mm prevails, but I'd settle for 8 cm. The latter has the virtue of being a small whole number, but the former is more consistent with the way small dimensions are specified.
