This is my answer to 'Bunterhund': "You have failed to mention that most Zollstocke have metric graduations only. I have a 'duimstok' with only millimeters and centimeters. I do not buy measuring instruments with other than metric units on them. And I think that we should stop using American units once and for all. I live in the Netherlands, a metric country, just like Germany is. I regard the use of American units in metric countries as madness. And I have no time at all for such ridiculous 'traditions' that prescribe the use of medieval measuring units. The nautical mile could be abolished, as the GPS system has made it redundant."
I had to register and I think that they want to know too much about people registering. There were no less than three fields with questions. They also try to trick you into subscribing for receiving commercial e-mails. Han Historian of Dutch Metrication, Nijmegen, The Netherlands
