I think I have got the explanation for the
inch-pound dimensions shown on the Internet pages of the design of the
Royal Ontario Museum extension that Kilopascal cited in USMA
24986.
The conceptional design shown in the WWW pages
was by Daniel Libeskind's New York office. Daniel Libeskind is
not listeed in either the Toronto White Pages, nor the Yellow Pages.
The address on the WWW pages is that of Bregmann + Hamann of Toronto
who are supervising the work. I spoke with Paul Gogan of that
firm. He explained that since this was an addition to a building
built in the 1920s it saved complications in enlarging the building by
continuing in feet and inches. Any new building that the firm
builds are designed and built in metric.
The plans submitted for the building permit
were metric, as required by Ontario regulations.
