You neglect the most direct relationship to the one and only one coherent
SI Unit of mass, the kilogram; that is:

1 metric ton = 1000 kg exactly.  Forget the Mg.  Although allowed, it is
a deviation from the single SI *Unit* of mass, the *kilogram*!
