We are designing a new terminal that will have some hand and/or shoulder straps on the sides for the user. These will need to be removable, and will vary a bit from customer to customer.

The obvious way of doing this is a threaded hole, similar to what is on the bottom of most cameras, where a machine screw with a large, knurled head goes through a grommet on the strap and screws into the case.

Unfortunately, the threaded hole on the bottom of cameras is a 1/4-20 (quarter inch diameter, 20 threads per inch). This is a very, very common, and there are huge numbers and varieties of accessories designed for it.

Is anyone familiar with something similar, but metric, used on products in metric countries?
