Stud to stud measurements on a wall (having found one of the studs with a
magnetic stud finder), width of furniture items, etc.

I'll use my tape or the yardstick, depending on which is handy. If I want
metric measurements, I use the tape, of course.

The yardstick (or a meter stick) can also be handy if you need to draw a
straight line on something (e.g., plywood, sheetrock, etc.). If I need the
line to be vertical or horizontal (on a vertical surface), I'll use the 61
cm level instead.
