In High School, we used meter sticks in chemistry class to measure the
length of laboratory glass tubing to calculate its volume (this was to
measure the quantity yield of some chemical reactions).  We also used them
in our Earth Science class to measure the depth of soil temperature
thermometers after we removed them from the ground.  --  Jason
