I was surprised to read in the most recent Technology Review from MIT that GE is 
developing a new, more powerful jet engine designed to generate "52,000 kilograms of 
thrust".

Since the kilogram is the base unit of mass, what the heck is it doing here 
purportedly describing thrust? What is the correct way to express thrust? How is it 
properly defined, and how the heck do you measure it?
