Your misunderstanding of the label makes a very nice pro-metric argument.  The 
serving size is in fluid ounces, but the alcohol content is (probably) in 
avoirdupois ounces.  Does it matter?  Yes, 0.5 avoirdupois ounce of pure 
alcohol does not have a volume of 0.5 U.S. fluid ounces.  Had metric units 
been used, this misunderstanding wouldn't have happened.

Everywhere ambiguous customary units are used, there is a chance that a unit 
will be misinterpreted.  Often the error is harmless, but not always.
