Actually, the original (The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak) is biblical 
(Matthew 26:41), not German. I'm not sure, but I think Matthew wrote in Greek. It 
certainly wasn't German, though.

And I thought George Bush had cornered the market for attributing sayings to local 
people (in his case, Texans).
