Hi John,

In France, the old unit for pound (livre) was redefined long ago as 500 g. I
get the impression that older people tend to buy food by the "livre," while
younger people are more likely to buy by the kilogram. This seems kind of
strange, given that France metricated about 200 years ago! My mother in law
one day got a real laugh when a young store clerk didn't know what "3 livres"
of apples meant.
