Hi Tim:
There has not been anything wrong in what you did learn; and so did I when I was in my formitive years as an engineer. My arguments arose since 1970-71, when I realised that TIME and Arc-Angle were conviniently *left out of the Metric norms* and I recall my contribution Metric Norms for Time Standard; 1971; Bureau of Indian Standards, New Delhi.
Prieur of Cote dOr while favoring adoption of the Metric System, by the decree of 1795 April 7 in France failed in forcing the world scientific family, in overlooking to tie *Time and Arc-Angle* axis and to gradually see its merits.
This, to me was the missing link, that Decimale Time move died itself during French Republican calendar within 13 years after its introduction - I mean that the Nautical Mile of 1852 m reigned supreme. My observation: What about Nautical Kilometre - that I define as '1/100th of the arc-ANGLE degree'?

Indeed, BUT the confusion between *Metric, decimal and decimale* need be
understood. To me, METRIC is: what is related to Metre - the length unit?

People:
Firts of all I would like to say I am sorry for starting any up roar that has
displaced the normall activities among this group. To the group I do
apologise and say thanks for the patience.

As for any confusion I my have caused with BriJ Bhshan Vij about metric
being a lenth unit Again I must apologise.

Weights and measures both have been represented to me threwout my life as
metric.
Tha following is a look at what I think to be correct usage of the metric
system. I sure hope that it is at least in the ball park of what I should know
about metric stuff.

I look forward to any corrections or insight that can be offered.

Units of lenth:
1 kilometer = 1,000 meters, 1 meter = 1,000 millimeters, 1 meter = 100
centimeters

Units of Volume:
1 kilometer = 1,000liters, 1 liter = 1,000 milliliters, 1 liter = 100
centiliters, 1 centiliter = 10 milliliters

Units of Mass ( weight):
1 kilogram = 1,000 grams, 1 gram = 1,000 millograms, 1 gram = 100 centigrams,
1centigram = 10 milligrams.

Now I must confess that I do think a little bit in the gray about decimal
things that are not addressed in the above units. This is pretty mutch why I
like groups like this one in hopes of fine tuning the gray ares of thinking.

Thanks again

Tim Moylan
