Here is a copy of a e mail i sent to a site called metric sucks. Hello my name is John Mercer.  I live in British Columbia just outside of the city of Vancouver.  I have some comments to make about your anti metric stance.
First of all i am writing you from Canada before you think i am writing from a metric country i am not.  Canada still uses the imperial system of measurement
a lot.  I would like to point out some facts about the metric system.  You say it came from the french, well so did the ounce.  The mile came from Rome
and so did the pound.  People in the States and Canada probably think when they buy a car built in the States they probably think it has inch bolts.  The
U S auto industry started to go metric in the late seventy's.  If metric is so bad why did G M Ford and Chrysler do it?  Why didn't the United Auto workers
union stir up the rank and file members and say we will not except metric.  The 3 largest diesel engine producers in the U S Caterpillar Cummins and Detroit
all make engines in the U S that have metric bolts intirely.  I don't believe that the government of the U S or France had anything to do with these companys
switching to metric.  If metric is so bad why hasn't there been a revelution in other countrys that used imperial and went to metric?  I wonder how many
mechanics that work on cars built by the big 3 feel that metric was forced on them.  America is one of the greatest countrys in the world.  I have another
question.  If imperial is so much better why didn't it spred around the world like metric has?  Another American company that is using metric is Harley
Davidson on their new bike called the V Rod, introduced in the summer of 2001.  Harley Davidson is probably 1 of the most pro American companys and even
they have started using metric. Thanks very much for your time, I would like to hear from you soon. John Mercer.
