The Wall Street Journal did it again, writing an article on Feb. 26 about Japanese snowball fighting wherein the players hurl snowballs of diameters described as 2.56 to 2.76 inches at opposing teams.  Of course, this is 6.5 to 7.0 cm, but the Journal tried to make it seem like some sort of oddball size.

My missive to the WSJ ([EMAIL PROTECTED], in case anyone is interested) is attached (I do not guarantee that it can be successfully opened).

Regarding your February 26 snowball fighting article, the Journal underestimates the intelligence of its readers in refusing to use the metric system in appropriate circumstances--such as explaining that the snowball diameters are an even 6.5 and 7.0 centimeters, rather than the illogical 2.56 and 2.76 inches described.  Was the author trying to make fun of the Japanese, or didn't he understand the metric system?  We readers surely do, and you would do well to skip the inches when the metric alternative is available and more suitable.
