With the E.U. imposing their metric-only labeling law in

The movement you think should be taking place actually IS taking place, Jason. See the article "NIST Forum Shows Strong Support for Optional Metric-only Labeling", in the 2004 Jan-Feb issue of Metric Today, pg 3ff.

Congress doesn't start with motions from the floor, it begins with laborious work by committees. It is sometimes (always?) slow, but that's the one of the disadvantages of a democracy. The metric labeling issue officially started with this NIST forum and has quite a ways to go before it ends up as part of a law being considered by Congress. Three members of the USMA were in attendance at that forum.
