Euric, I need your help. I was watching a film called "the core" on Saturday night. It mentioned loads of measurements based on Football Fans that we don't use in the UK "because we are a metric country". What happens in Australia with films like this? Realising that no-one would know what a fahrenheit or mile is, or even pounds per square inch, how does it get broadcast? Do they dub the word over with "normal metric words" that get used everywhere in the world (including the UK)? Or does a bit of text come up at the base of the screen when someone says something. eg, if someone in the film says "60miles" does some text come up saying "98 km" at the bottom of the screen? Or does the film get completely re-filmed for the Australian audience so as not to confuse the audience? I mean, it was ludicrous! At one point someone said "outside temperature 30 thousand degrees Fahrenheit". Now even if I knew what a fahrenheit was (which i don't because "The UK is a metric country") how am I menat to have a "feel" for that sort of temperature? If they said 30 thousand degrees cenlsius then - of course - I'd know EXACTLY how that would feel, to the nearest degree. So tell me, how does Australia air those films? Or would it be wiser to just ignore films from the US or UK. Sorry, I meant US only because "The UK is a metric country". You're valuable and balanced advice is desperately sought... |
