Hello USMA Listserv members!
Next week I, along with a group of sudents will present information about D'arcy
McNickle's book "The Surrounded" to my American Lit. class. I will only use metric
distances to indicate where the Flathead Indian Reservation (Montana) is, in relation
to other areas. In my captions that accompany photographs, I only use kilometers. Here
are a couple of excerpts from my captions:
1. (St. Ignatius Mission)
"...St. Ignatius Mission is located near the town of St. Ignatius 50 or
so kilometers north of Missoula."
2. (D'arcy McNickle)
"...'The Surrounded' which takes place in and around the area of the
Flathead Indian Reservation, which is 40-60 km north of Missoula, Montana"
I will report any adverse or positive reactions next week from the audience to
give you a sense on how things went. Wish me luck!
