Anti-metric people seem to not recognize the fact that SI does NOT require tedious calculations and that the only thing needed to convert (for example) meters to kilometers is to have the decimal point pack its bags and fly three (decimal) places east (to the left) -- WITHOUT having to change any individual numbers.

The Foot-Ounce-Ouncedal System
Posted By: Bryan Ashley James Parry <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
Date: Sunday, 30 May 2004, at 1:14 p.m.This system does not actually exist, but it *IS* a highly compelling implied system.
That is to say, all of the following units exist by implication (just as the S dry gallon exists by implication), but actually not in practice.
All the following holds true with no change whatsoever to any of our current English units.
Units:
Length: Foot (ft)
Mass: Ounce (oz)
Time: Second (s)
Force: Ouncedal (ol-- on the analogy on "poundal")
Energy/Work: Fozdal (fol) [foot-ouncedal]
Power: Fols [foot-ouncedal/second]
Volume: Cuf = 1 cubic foot = 1000oz water1 Ouncedal is very close to one gram-force in size. To be more precise:
1 ouncedal = 1/514.7848 pound-force
1 kilouncedal = 31.08oz (i.e. very close to two pounds, more so than a kilogram)
1 Megouncedal = very close to the US ton
My opinion:
It is amazing that people can't come to grips with reality and will do anything to keep alive a collection of units that is slowly, but surely being phased out.Euric
