Depending on the conductivity of the air, it takes between 1 and 3 MV/m to
start an electron flow in the air between two conductors.

I usually say 'the last metre'. In my limited experience of electronics, it
seems to me that electrons have quite a lot of trouble jumping across most
gaps � unless you push them really hard!
