I see Carleton has replied regarding the approach this list uses. Unfortunately, our list manager, Don Hillger, is unable to change that. The list is one of many operated by the University of Colorado's network. They all use the same software. As the manager of only one of the lists, Don does not apparently have the clout to get the procedure changed.
In case you're wondering, this same issue has come up before. In favor of the current procedure, it does have the advantage of making it easy to send a private reply if one wishes to, at the expense of having to delete one or more (usually one) private email addresses when replying to the list itself.
